The Environmental Resources Spatial Analysis Center (ERSAC) was established to develop a unified computing environment for research on spatial analysis and modeling of natural resources and environment. Establishment of the Center was made possible by a grant from the National Science Foundation and matching funds from the University of Minnesota. A NASA Centers of Excellence grant has enabled significant updating and increase in facilities for both research and teaching. Continued operation of the Center is supported by user fees, along with support from the College of Natural Resources and the Department of Forest Resources.
The Center includes approximately 20 faculty and 50 graduate students from eight departments from five colleges with a common interest in geospatial analysis of environmental and natural resources. The departments include: Biosystems and Agricultural Engineering; Classical and Near Eastern Studies; Ecology, Evolution and Behavior; Fisheries and Wildlife; Forest Resources; Landscape Architecture; Soil, Water and Climate; and Wood and Paper Science.
Marvin Bauer, Department of Forest Resources, serves as the ERSAC director, and Trent Erickson is the systems administrator. The College of Natural Resources and Department of Forest Resources provide administrative support and space for ERSAC.
